At Bay Nail Surgery Clinic, we offer an effective and permanent solution to ingrown toenails through a procedure called Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA). Here’s what you can expect:
We begin by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting not just the toe, but the surrounding area of your foot to reduce the risk of infection and ensure the procedure is as safe as possible.
Next, a local anaesthetic is administered to numb the toe using a fine needle, ensuring that you feel no discomfort during the treatment. Once we’ve confirmed the toe is fully numb, we carefully remove the portion of the nail that is digging into the skin and causing you pain.
To prevent the nail from growing back and causing further problems, we apply a chemical called phenol to the treated area. This chemical destroys the nail cells at the problem edge, providing a long-term solution.
Once the procedure is complete, we dress the toe to aid the healing process and provide clear aftercare instructions. We’ll also schedule a follow-up appointment to change the dressing and check your progress.
